Homers Lift Colgate to a Doubleheader Sweep Over the Bison

LEWISBURG, Pa. – Colgate hit two home runs in the first game and a big three-run shot in the second game to sweep a Patriot League softball doubleheader with Bucknell on Sunday at Becker Field.
The Bison won the first game of the series on Saturday and are 19-12 overall and 1-2 in the conference this season. Colgate leaves Lewisburg with a record of 7-10 overall and 2-1 in the league.
Bucknell will travel to University Park to play at night doubleheader with Penn State on Wednesday. The first game is scheduled for 6 p.m.
Game 1 – Colgate 7, Bucknell 4
Colgate's Katie Bushee led off the game with a home run to key a three-run first inning for Colgate. She was on base in the fifth inning when Marisa Dowling highlighted another three-run inning with a two-run shot.
Bucknell responded to the Raiders' big first inning with four runs in the second frame. Kristen Zahn led off with a double and later scored on a one-out single by Erin Cox. The Bison added two runs on a throwing error before taking a one-run lead on Amanda Fazio's RBI double.
Bucknell held the lead until Colgate's three-run fifth inning. The Raiders tacked on an insurance run in the sixth.
Brigit Ieuter, who took a no-decision in Colgate's loss to Bucknell on Saturday, went the distance to pick up the win on Sunday. She gave up one earned run on eight hits and one walk. She struck out four batters.
Zahn had two doubles and Fazio hit one for the Bison. Erin Cox singled twice, while Cydnee Sanders, Meghan Kovac, and Christina Martinez had one single apiece.
Carolyn Wan had a great game defensively in right field for Bucknell. She had six put outs, including multiple plays tracking down potential hits to make the catch.
Game 2- Colgate 5, Bucknell 2
Tara Grennan broke a 2-2 tie with a three-run home run in the top of the fifth inning to lead Colgate to its second win of the day.
Bucknell handed Kira Griswold a loss on Saturday, but couldn't solve the pitcher on Sunday. She pitched all seven innings, allowing one earned run on three hits and three walks. She struck out three batters.
Jacee Almond had two doubles for the Bison, and Erin Cox added a single.
