LEWISBURG, Pa. – The Bucknell baseball team will wrap up its first homestand of the season with a pair of non-league games this week. The Bison will host Binghamton on Tuesday and Mount St. Mary's on Wednesday to conclude a stretch of seven consecutive home games. Both contests will begin at 3 p.m. at Depew Field.
Additionally, junior right-handed pitcher Andrew Andreychik (Danville, Pa./Danville) was named the Patriot League Pitcher of the Week on Monday. It was his fourth career honor and his first this year.
Andreychik scattered eight hits and allowed just one unearned run in Sunday's 2-1 victory over Cornell. The Big Red scored their run in the top of the first inning and Andreychik held them scoreless the rest of the way as he posted his first complete game of the season. Andreychik struck out a season-high seven as he evened his record at 2-2. He has not allowed an earned run in his last two appearances (11.0 IP).
Bucknell is coming off a four-game home series against Cornell where it took three of four games. All three of the Bison's victories were by one run as they improved to 12-7 on the year, marking the first time this season they are five games over .500.
Joe Ogren continues to pace the Bucknell offense with a .408 batting average. He has hit four home runs and driven in 19 runs. Anthony Gingerelli has also been hot with a .346 batting average. Ogren, Gingerelli, Brett Smith and Greg Wasikowski have started all 19 games.
The Bison team ERA has dipped to 3.81, its lowest figure since March 8. Xavier Hammond and Bryson Hough lead Bucknell with three wins apiece. Hammond has an impressive 40 strikeouts in 35.0 innings.
Junior right-hander Dan Keller is expected to earn the start for the Bison Tuesday vs. Binghamton, while freshman lefty Mike Korchak will start Wednesday's contest against Mount St. Mary's.
Bucknell holds a 6-5 edge in the all-time series against Binghamton. The Bison won last year's meeting by a 4-1 score and the teams split a doubleheader the last time they played in Lewisburg in 2013.
Bucknell is 25-15 all-time vs. Mount St. Mary's, including a 6-1 road win last April. The Bison have won five in a row in the series.
Binghamton brings a 4-8 record into Tuesday's contest. The Bearcats have not played since defeating Stony Brook last Monday.
Mount St. Mary's is 2-11 this year and hosts UMBC on Tuesday.
Following Wednesday's contest, Bucknell will be on the road for nine consecutive games. The Bison open Patriot League play with a four-game series at Navy this weekend. Sunday's contests are slated to air on the Patriot League Network.
