Men's Tennis Cruises to 8-1 Win Over Chestnut Hill

LAFAYETTE HILL, Pa. – Bucknell men's tennis is back over .500 on the season after an 8-1 win at Chestnut Hill on Saturday at Green Valley Country Club. The Bison improved to 7-6 with the win in a match that was played by Division II scoring rules.
Octavio Canibe had an exciting come-from-behind win at No. 4 to lead Bucknell to a 5-1 mark in singles matches. The senior dropped the first set before responding with 6-1, 10-7 wins in the final two. Canibe improved to 4-8 during the spring with his second straight win.
Nick Bybel kept his impressive winning streak alive with a 6-1, 6-0 victory at No. 1 singles. The junior is 28-3 on the year and is unbeaten in his past 11 matches.
Bryan Adams (No. 2), Daniel Wright (No. 3), and William Szamosszegi (No. 6) also won in singles for the Bison.
Canibe also had a nailbiter in doubles play, teaming with Wright for a 9-8 (5) win at No. 2. Bybel and Adams were 8-4 winners at No. 1, while Maxwell Kane and Ben Gerber cruised to an 8-2 win at No. 3.
“It was a good win over Chestnut Hill,” Canibe said. “We are starting to get into the important part of our schedule, and we are all playing better each match. I am excited to starting playing against our Patriot League rivals. We are looking forward to our matches this week and Alumni Weekend.”
Bucknell will host Villanova on Tuesday at 3 p.m. and George Mason on Saturday at 1 p.m.
