Bybel Sets Bucknell Record in Bison's 4-3 Win Over Villanova

LEWISBURG, Pa – Nick Bybel made Bucknell men's tennis history in the Bison's 4-3 win over visiting Villanova on Tuesday at the Bucknell Tennis Courts. The junior became the program's career record holder in singles with a win over Mark Miller at the No. 1 spot.
Bybel easily took the point for the Bison, winning 6-1, 6-1. He improved to 77-21 during his career and 29-3 on the season with his 12th straight victory. Bybel teamed with Bryan Adams for the duo's fifth straight doubles win, and is now 11th all-time with 54 doubles victories.
Despite the win by Bybel and Adams, Bucknell was down 1-0 after doubles. The Bison bounced back with three consecutive wins in singles, starting with Bybel, who was followed by Octavio Canibe and Daniel Wright. Canibe was a 6-1, 6-4 winner over Tim Abbracciamento at No. 4, while Wright topped Bradley Noyes 6-3, 6-3 at No. 3. Both players are unbeaten in their past three singles matches.
Villanova cut the lead to 3-2 with a triumph at No. 2 singles, setting the stage for Maxwell Kane to clinch the team win at No. 5. Kane came through, beating Justin Burrus 6-4, 6-0.
“We once again came out flat at second and third doubles, which is disappointing, but I was proud of the way we fought back in singles,” said Bucknell head coach Craig Schwartz. “I challenged each and every guy and we pulled through as a team. Matches like today are what's going to help us pull through when we get to the Patriot League season.”
The Bison improved to 8-6 with their third straight win. The Wildcats fell to 2-12.
The Bison are back on their home courts on Saturday when they host George Mason. The non-conference match is scheduled for 1 p.m.
