LEWISBURG, Pa. – Bucknell junior second baseman Joe Ogren (Jackson, N.J./Jackson Memorial) earned his second consecutive Patriot League Baseball Player of the Week award, the league office announced Monday. The 2014 All-Patriot League selection was 4-for-8 with two home runs and seven RBIs in the Bison's two games last week.
Bucknell traveled to South Carolina to play two games against Buffalo and split the doubleheader. The Bison captured game one by a 17-4 scored and dropped the nightcap by a 5-3 margin. The teams were scheduled to play a third game on Sunday, but it was rained out.
Ogren was strong in the doubleheader. He was 3-for-5 with a career-high five RBIs and one run scored in the opening game. He was a key cog in Bucknell's 13-run seventh inning with a two-run home run and a two-run single.
The 2014 Patriot League Tournament MVP added a two-run home run in the third inning of game two to extend his season-opening hitting streak to seven games. Ogren began the season with six consecutive multi-hit outings and he has driven in at least one run in each of the campaign's first seven contests. Ogren has also scored at least one run in every game.
Ogren ranks third nationally in batting average (.586) and fourth in both slugging percentage (1.034) and on-base percentage (.647). Thanks to his hot start to the season Ogren's career batting average has gone up 25 points this year from .289 to .314.
Ogren and the Bison are now preparing for next week's spring break trip to Florida. Bucknell will play seven games in the Sunshine State starting with contests against Dartmouth and Illinois State on Sunday, March 8.
