Bybel Sets Single-Season Win Record as Bison Beat The Mount 6-1

LEWISBURG, Pa. – Junior Nick Bybel broke his own single-season record for wins in Bucknell's 6-1 win over Mount St. Mary's in non-conference men's tennis action Wednesday at the Bucknell Tennis Courts. The Bison evened their record at 6-6 while playing on their home courts for the first time this spring.
Bybel improved to 27-3 during the fall and spring seasons with a 6-0, 6-4 win over Austin Blake at No. 1 singles. He is unbeaten in his past 10 matches. Bybel now has the top two single-season win totals in program history, including a 26-9 mark last season. His next victory will tie him for first on the team's career list.
Daniel Wright upped his singles record to 9-2 this spring with a 6-1, 6-3 win at No. 3 singles. He was followed by Octavio Canibe, who clinched the match with a 6-4, 6-1 victory at No. 4. Maxwell Kane and William Szamosszegi gave the Bison points in five of the six singles matches with wins at No. 5 and No. 6, respectively.
Szamosszegi's win came in three sets over Peter Salomon. He improved to 4-2 during the spring, winning by scores of 6-4, 2-6, 10-5.
The Bison took two of the three doubles matches. Bybel and Adams were 8-2 winners at No. 1, while Wright and Canibe won 8-4 at No. 2.
“It was tough conditions out there and not the prettiest of tennis, but the great part is that we found a way to win,” said Bucknell head coach Craig Schwartz. “We will continue to work on things and practice hard. We are looking forward to a tough doubleheader on Saturday.”
Bucknell was scheduled to host Rider on Thursday, but the match has been canceled due to weather concerns. The Bison will play a pair of road matches on Saturday, traveling to take on Saint Joseph's at 1 p.m. and Chestnut Hill at 6 p.m.
