Lombardo Wins Long Jump at Youngstown State National Invite

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – Freshman Nicholas Lombardo won the long jump and qualified for the IC4A Championships to lead the Bucknell men's track and field team on the first day of competition at the Youngstown State National Invite on Friday.
Lombardo was easily the best in a field of 21 jumpers, winning the event with a leap of 23-2 ¾. It was a pair of freshmen at the top as Youngstown State's Tyree Ballenger took second, six inches behind the winner. Lombardo's jump was also his personal best by over three inches.
Lombardo wasn't the only freshman to excel for the Bison as Zachary Williams finished fourth out of 27 in the 5,000-meter run. He crossed the line in 14:51.63, the fastest time by a Bucknell runner this season. Junior Peter Murray also competed in the event and took ninth.
Bucknell had two runners finish in the top five of the 1,000m. Junior Cole Conte was third in 2:30.97, with freshman David Frering coming in one spot behind him in fourth. Junior Griffin Robertson rounded out the Bison's top-five finishers with a fifth-place showing in the 500m.
Lupica Qualifies for Finals at Notre Dame
NOTRE DAME, Ind. – Senior Christian Lupica advanced past the first two rounds of the 60-meter hurdles at Notre Dame's Meyo Invitational on Friday. He will compete in the finals when competition resumes on Saturday.
Competing in a strong field of 37 runners, Lupica had the sixth-fastest time (8.09) in the preliminaries. He improved his time to 7.93 and again finished sixth in the semifinals. Lupica owns the Bucknell record in the event with a time of 7.82.
Competition at the Meyo Invitational picks back up on Saturday at 10 a.m. Lupica will compete for the title in the 60-meter hurdles at 2:05 p.m.
