PITTSBURGH, Pa. – Just six days after recording its third straight runner-up finish at the Patriot League Championships the Bucknell women's swimming and diving team was back in the pool competing at the ECAC Championships at Pittsburgh's Trees Pool. The Bison, who participated in their first scored meet of the season at Pittsburgh back in October, are in sixth place in the team standings with 94 points.
Six events were contested on Friday and Bucknell scored points in four of them. A fifth-place finish by the 400-yard medley relay of Jackie Shroyer, Gina Gautieri, Emily Andrews and Caroline Edelman was the best showing by the Bison.
Stephanie Koziol (500 freestyle) and Diana Hanson (200 IM) recorded the best individual finishes with sixth-place showings in their events. Koziol led four Bison scorers in the 500 free. She was joined in the “A” final by eighth-place Paige Daniel, while Laureana Zrada (13th) and Leanne Archer (14th) were in the “B” final. Daniel's time of 5:00.31 was a career-best time by .03 seconds and was the No. 9 time in school history, while Zrada tied for 16th in the prelims and needed to win a swim-off to advance to the finals.
Hanson, an All-Patriot League selection earlier this week, was the only Bucknell scorer in the 200 IM.
The 200 free relay of Edelman, Grace Ford, Shroyer and Rachel Brekovsky opened the finals with an eighth-place finish in the 200 free relay.
Bucknell just missed scoring more points as Edelman was 17th in the prelims of the 50 free and Brekovsky was 18th in the 200 IM prelims.
Host Pittsburgh has the lead after day one. Three Patriot League schools are in the top six as Navy is second and Army is fourth.
The ECAC Championships will continue Saturday. Trials begin at 10 a.m. and the finals are slated for 6 p.m. The 200 medley relay, 400 IM, 100 fly, 200 free, 100 breast, 100 back and 800 free relay, as well as women's three-meter diving, are on the schedule.
