BLOOMSBURG, Pa. – Paul Petrov, Tyler Smith and Joe Stolfi recorded pins and No. 23 Bucknell won eight of 10 matches on its way to a commanding 36-9 victory over Bloomsburg Sunday afternoon at Nelson Field House. It was the seventh straight win for the Bison, who have now equaled the program record for dual victories in a season (12).
The seven-match winning streak is the longest for a Bucknell (12-3) squad since 1992-93, while the 12 wins tied the program record established by the 2006-07 squad and later matched by the 2009-10 team.
Bucknell and Bloomsburg (0-8) were meeting for the second straight year after not squaring off since 2006. The Huskies won last season's meeting at the Virginia Duals, but the Bison reversed the outcome this season for their first win over Bloomsburg since 1995.
Thanks to the three pins and one forfeit victory at 184 pounds, Bucknell equaled its season high for points in a dual. The pins came quickly as well with Petrov (125) and Smith (141) recorded second-period falls and Stolfi getting his with 25 seconds remaining in the first period. It was the 16th pin of the year for Stolfi, who leads the nation in that category. He now has 48 in his career, just two shy of matching the program record held by Brian Pitzer.
Petrov's pin was his fourth of the year, while Smith posted his third. It was the eighth consecutive win for Petrov, which is the second-longest active streak on the team behind Stolfi, who has won 17 straight.
In addition to the four bonus-point wins, the Bison had four wins by decision. Three of them were decided by at least three points with Robert Schlitt's one-point victory over Kurt Meske at 165 being the closest of the match. Grim Gonzalez (133) and Logan Kerin (157) both had three-point decisions, while Tyler Lyster posted a 4-0 victory at 197. It was his 10th shutout decision win this season.
Bloomsburg's lone wins came by pin at 149 and decision at 174.
The Bison will conclude a four-match road trip Saturday, Feb. 7, with a 7 p.m. match at EIWA foe American. Bucknell's next home match is Feb. 13 vs. Franklin & Marshall.
