LEWISBURG, Pa. – The Bucknell men's track and field team won four individual events and had five athletes qualify for the IC4A Indoor Championships on Saturday at the Bison Opener in Gerhard Fieldhouse.
Junior Christopher D'Aliso, sophomores David Frering, Maxwell Prizant, Nicholas Lombardo and freshman Matthew Fay all posted victories for the Bison in the season-opening event.
“I thought it was a very good opening meet for the men,” says head coach Kevin Donner. “We had a bunch of wins and IC4A qualifiers.”
Entering the day in third place after four events of the heptathlon on Friday, D'Aliso rallied back to capture the title, notching a first-place finish in the 60-meter high hurdles with a time of 8.62 to pick up 832 points. He finished as the runner-up in the 1000-meter run and third in the pole vault to beat out the field with 4,625 points, edging out teammate Cody Haupt, who finished second with 4,611 points.
Frering's title in the mile run came in one of the more crowded fields of the day as he topped 22 runners with a time of 4:35.48.
Prizant and Fay finished tied for first in the pole vault, each clearing an IC4A-qualfying mark of 4.80-meters (15-9).
“I was especially pleased with our field events,” says coach Donner. “Our two young pole vaulters Prizant and Fay were definitely a highlight.”
Lombardo beat out the 15-athlete field in the long jump with an IC4A-qualfying effort of 7.02-meters (23-0 ½). He also finished third in the triple jump.
Freshman Scott Gulizio qualified for the IC4As in his Bison debut with a time of 1.56.02 in the 800-meter run. Junior Joseph Breen was the team's last IC4A-qualifier with a 16.67-meter (55-0) effort in the shot put.
Seniors Anthony Menza (300m), Griffin Robertson (400m) and juniors Jacob Ashkettle (500m) and Elijah Kay (high jump) each finished as the runner-up in their event.
The Bison will have a month off before their next competition, when they make the short trip for the Penn State Relays on Saturday, Jan. 9.
