LEWISBURG, Pa. – Senior running back Matt DelMauro (Nutley, N.J./Nutley) on Thursday added another honor to his already impressive list of awards when he was named to the CoSIDA Academic All-America Football First Team. It is DelMauro's first Academic All-America honor, and he is the first Bison football player to be recognized since Tim Bolte in 2011.
Bucknell has now captured 128 all-time Academic All-America citations, and 24 of them have come from the football program.
DelMauro is the second Bucknell student-athlete this academic year to earn Academic All-America honors, joining Jesse Klug of the men's soccer team. This is the first time since 2012-13 multiple Bucknell student-athletes have earned Academic All-America plaudits.
A Second Team All-Patriot League selection this year, DelMauro is a two-time CoSIDA Academic All-District II selection and has also been named to the Academic All-Patriot League Team twice. The accounting and financial management major was a Campbell Trophy semifinalist earlier this fall and was named to the FCS ADA Academic All-Star Team last year. The three-time Patriot League Academic Honor Roll member and this year's Patriot League Football Scholar-Athlete of the Year has also been on Bucknell's Dean's List multiple times and is a member of the Alpha Lambda Delta Honor Society.
On the field, DelMauro posted three 100-yard rushing games this season and led the team with a career-high 655 rushing yards. He played in all 11 games and led the squad with 812 all-purpose yards.
DelMauro finished his career with 1,730 career rushing yards in 31 career games. He totaled nearly 300 career receiving yards and scored 11 touchdowns. The versatile DelMauro capped his career with 2,073 all-purpose yards.
A member of Sigma Chi fraternity, DelMauro was part of the CHAMP Mentoring Program, where he mentored a fifth-grade student having trouble making friends and dealing with family problems at home. He has also participated in Derby Days, which is a fundraiser for Children's Hospital, and assisted youth in learning football as part of the Nutley (N.J.) Rec Football Program.
A Boys State delegate in 2012, DelMauro graduated in the top 10 percent of his high school class.
In order to be eligible for Academic All-America honors, a student-athlete must be at least a sophomore, hold a 3.30 or better cumulative grade-point average and be a starter or key reserve on his/her team.
