LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – Tom Sleigh captured the 184-pound title and Joe Stolfi, who was making his season debut, won the 285-pound crown to lead the Bucknell wrestling team at the Lock Haven Classic Tuesday. Four Bison grapplers made finals appearances as Victor Lopez, who was wrestling unattached, finished second at 149 pounds and Tyler Greene posted a runner-up finish at 197 pounds.
Bucknell's six wrestlers who competed attached (Ben Bliss, Zach Kelly, D.J. Hollingshead, Sleigh, Greene, Stolfi) finished fourth in the team standings with 58 points, while the 15 other Bucknell wrestlers at the event competed unattached and were eighth in the 16-team standings.
Stolfi, who was named Outstanding Wrestler of the tournament, returned to the Bison lineup in grand fashion, posting a 4-0 record with three falls and a major decision en route to his championship. His opening victory of the day was the 100th of his career, and he now ranks seventh in program history with 103 wins.
Sleigh was also 4-0 on his way to his title. The sophomore posted two victories by tech fall, including a 16-0 shutout of Kent State's Cole Baxter in the championship bout.
Lopez had two falls and an 18-7 major decision to advance to the championship match at 149 pounds. There, he lost to Lock Haven's Daniel Neff by an 8-6 score. It marked Lopez's best finish in a tournament this season.
Greene won his first two bouts by a total of 17 points and then defeated Indiana's Jake Massengale 4-3 in the semifinals. Greene lost by a 9-4 decision to Kent State's Kyle Conel in the championship bout.
