LEWISBURG, Pa. – Bucknell senior S Clayton Ewell (Springfield, Pa./Springfield Township) and junior DL Ben Schumacher (Cedar Grove, N.J./Cedar Grove) were named Second Team All-ECAC on Friday. They were two of nine Patriot League players honored.
Friday's honor is the latest in a long line of awards for Ewell, who garnered a pair of All-America honors earlier this week. He was also the Patriot League Defensive Player of the Year and a First Team All-Patriot League selection. Ewell was also named Bucknell's team MVP at the program's annual postseason awards banquet earlier this month.
A Second Team All-Patriot League selection last year and a Preseason All-Patriot League choice this year, Ewell totaled 66 tackles, 11 tackles for loss, three sacks, six pass breakups and one forced fumble this season. He ranked in the top 20 in the Patriot League in tackles for loss, passes defended, tackles and sacks.
Ewell was one of just two Bison seniors to play in all 44 games over the last four years, starting the last 33 in a row at safety. Ewell finished his Bucknell career with 184 tackles, the most of any current Bison player.
Schumacher joined Ewell on the All-Patriot League First Team this fall as he had a breakout year in his first season as a regular starter on the defensive line. The junior posted career highs in every category with 43 tackles, a team-high 13.5 tackles for loss, 6.5 sacks, one interception, one pass breakup, one forced fumble and a blocked kick. Schumacher's 13.5 tackles for loss ranked second in the Patriot League. He also ranked in the top five in the conference in sacks.
Bucknell finished the 2015 campaign with a 4-7 overall record.
