LEWISBURG, Pa. – The playoff-bound Bucknell men's soccer team placed two of its key performers on the All-Patriot League Team on Monday. Senior midfielder Chris Thorsheim earned First Team All-Patriot League honors, making him a rare four-time all-conference selection, and veteran defender Zack Rockmore earned his first citation as a Second Team choice.
Since the league's inception in 1990, Thorsheim is Bucknell's first four-time All-Patriot League honoree. He was a Second Team pick as a freshman in 2012, and he has now made the First Team in each of the last three seasons. There have now been nine four-time selections in league history, including Thorsheim and Navy's Derek Vogel, who joined the list this season.
Prior to the start of the season, Thorsheim was named to the watch list for the Missouri Athletic Club Herrmann Trophy, which is presented to college soccer's national player of the year. Thorsheim has backed up that honor with a terrific senior campaign. A starter in all 18 games so far, he leads the team and ranks second in the league in goals (8) and points (22). He also ranks fifth in the conference with six assists.
Thorsheim scored twice in a big conference win over Loyola last week, and then this past Saturday he celebrated his Senior Day with a two-assist performance in a 4-0 win over Army West Point. The Bison had to get all three points from that contest with the Black Knights in order to qualify for the Patriot League Tournament, and they did that with a dominating performance.
Thorsheim enters the postseason with 58 career points on 20 goals and 18 assists. He ranks ninth on Bucknell's all-time assists chart.
Rockmore is in his second season at Bucknell after transferring from Boston College, and he has been a pillar at center back for the Bison since his arrival. A senior academically but with another year of eligibility remaining, Rockmore has played every minute of every game this season.
In addition to his strong work defensively, he also has scored a career-high four goals along with an assist for nine points. He was also named Patriot League Defensive Player of the Week on Monday after playing a big role in the clutch win over Army West Point. He led a defense that limited the Black Knights to seven total shots and just one shot on target, and he also scored Bucknell's fourth goal of the game with a running header on a corner kick.
Bucknell has now had multiple All-Patriot League selections every year since 2002.
At 7-6-5 overall and 3-3-3 in the Patriot League, the Bison are seeded fifth in the Patriot League Tournament. They will take on fourth-seeded Lehigh in the quarterfinals in Bethlehem on Tuesday night.
