LEWISBURG, Pa. – After a two-week break since its last competition, the Bucknell men's swimming and diving team returns to action Saturday when it travels to Navy's Lejeune Hall for a quad meet. The Bison and the host Mids will be joined by American and Lafayette at the meet, which is scheduled for a noon start.
Saturday marks the eighth time in nine years the four teams will compete in a quad meet. The Bison have seen plenty of success against Lafayette and American over the years, posting a 51-4 mark against the Leopards and an 8-3 record against the Eagles. Navy leads 12-1 in the all-time series with Bucknell, but many of the current swimmers took part in the Bison's lone victory, which took place during the 2013-14 season.
Bucknell won four individual events while beating American and Lafayette and falling to Navy in last year's quad meet, which was held at Kinney Natatorium. Chris Devlin swept the backstroke events, setting Bucknell top-10 times in both, while Louis Behnen won the 400 IM and was the runner-up in both the 500 free and 1,000 free. Tyler Wenzel took first on the 1-meter board. The Bison added nine-runner up finishes.
The Bison are 0-2 on the season, falling to two tough opponents in Boston University and Pittsburgh. They've seen plenty of individual success, however, having swept the Patriot League weekly awards on two occasions. Most recently, Devlin was named the Swimmer of the Week and Wenzel the Diver of the Week following the meet at Pittsburgh. Devlin received the award after winning the 400 IM and 400-medley relay, while Wenzel was the runner-up in both diving events, setting a top-10 mark on the 3-meter board.
Navy and American enter the weekend a combined 5-0 on the season, with the Mids winning four times and the Eagles once. The Leopards are 0-2.
