LEWISBURG, Pa. – The Bucknell field hockey team continued its tradition of academic success on Wednesday, placing three players on the Academic All-Patriot League Team. The Bison were represented by seniors Abby Watson and Emily Hitchings and junior Anna Wills on the 11-player squad.
Bucknell tied with Boston University for the most selections. The Bison have had at least three players voted to the Academic All-Patriot League Team since its formation in 2010, earning 19 honors during that time.
Watson receives the academic recognition for the third time in her career, the maximum amount for one player. Just three other players have accomplished the feat. The Bucknell senior carries a 3.93 GPA as a civil engineering major. A Dean's List student every semester, she has twice been named to the NFHCA Division I Scholars of Distinction List for posting a perfect 4.0 GPA during the competition season. She is a member of the Bison Leadership Academy and has landed a spot on the Patriot League Academic Honor Roll in each of her first three seasons. On the field, Watson has contributed nine points on three goals and three assists. She scored the game-winning goal in a conference win over Colgate.
Wills has now earned the award in consecutive seasons, the latest coming just a day after she was named First Team All-Patriot League. The junior has made the Dean's List in each of her first four semesters, recording a 3.89 GPA as a double major in English-film studies and political science. She has three goals, including the game-winner in a conference win over Lehigh, and one assist this year, and has anchored a defense that has tallied nine shutouts over the past two seasons.
Hitchings picks up her first All-Academic honor in her final season as a Bison. An early childhood education major, the senior carries a 3.88 GPA and has been named to the Patriot League Academic Honor Roll in each of her first three seasons. She has three goals this season, two of which came in the second half of a 2-1 win over Cal, and has added three assists. Her other goal came in the second half of a 2-1 overtime win at Temple.
The Bison enter the Patriot League Championship as the No. 4 seed and will play at top-seeded Boston University in the semifinals on Friday at 11 a.m.
