Field Hockey Closes Regular Season with 3-1 Loss at American

WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Bucknell field hockey team closed its regular season with a 3-1 loss at American in a Patriot League matchup on Saturday. The Bison enter the postseason with an overall record of 8-10 and a 3-3 mark in the league, while the Eagles sit at 11-6 overall and 5-1 in the conference.
Bucknell qualifies for the Patriot League Tournament as the fourth seed and will play defending champion Boston University in the semifinals on Friday at 11 a.m., while second-seeded American will take on third-seeded Lafayette at 2 p.m. Both games, as well as the championship round on Saturday, will be played at Boston's New Balance Field.
The Bison scored their goal early Saturday, taking a 1-0 lead on a score by sophomore Stephanie Dressler. Her second goal of the season came off a deflection following a penalty corner shot 4:04 after the opening whistle. Junior Emily Goodloe was credited with an assist, her second of the season.
American went on to score the next three goals, including the game-tying score by Tara Murphy in the 25th minute and the game-winner by Natalie Marsh in the 29th minute. Sophia Crawshay tacked on an insurance goal 56 seconds into the second half.
Kate McBeath made six saves to record the win for American. Bucknell finished with a 12-8 advantage in shots and a 5-3 edge in penalty corners.
