LEWISBURG, Pa. – In the final home contest of her collegiate career, Madison Loos found the back of the net in the second half to lift the Bucknell women's soccer team to a 1-0 win over Army West Point on Saturday afternoon at Emmitt Field. Cora Climo and Alexis Gannon were credited with the assist on the goal as the Bison finish the regular season 10-5-3 overall and 6-1-2 in the Patriot League.
The Bison will be the No. 2 seed in the 2015 Patriot League Tournament, receiving a first-round bye. Bucknell will travel to Boston for its semifinal contest on Nov. 6 at 7 p.m.
With the victory, Bucknell extends its unbeaten streak to eight games, which is a new program record previously set in 2006. The Bison also posted their fifth consecutive shutout, which is also a new team record. Bucknell has now held its opponents scoreless for 479.50 consecutive minutes, which breaks a school record of 446.50 minutes set in 2002.
Prior to the game, the Bucknell women's soccer program honored its five seniors: Jessie Ashworth, Lauren Dandie, Loos, Danielle Piccirilli and Devan Schulte.
After a scoreless first half, Bucknell was able to get on the board in the 50th minute. Gannon found a cutting Climo in the middle of the field, who then sent the ball wide to the right side for Loos, who ripped a shot to the far left side of the netting for her third goal of the season.
The Bucknell back line put together another rock solid performance. The defense weathered a flurry of Army shot attempts in the 37th minute. The initial shot was headed away at the goal line by Jackie Ham. The second shot was blocked away by the defense, and the final shot hit off the post, keeping the sheet clean. Freshman Maddie Dano played a career-high 64 minutes on the back line after replacing an injured Bison in the first half.
Jessica Ratner finished with three saves in the contest. Ratner's 10 shutouts this season are tied for fourth-most in a single-season in team history. She is the first Bucknell goalkeeper to post a double-digit shutout total since Sandita McDermott in 2012. Ratner now has 13 career shutouts, which ranks third all-time.
Bucknell and Army took 12 shots each in the contest, though the Black Knights had a 6-2 advantage in corner kicks. With the loss, Army West Point is now eliminated from playoff contention.
The Bison finish the season unbeaten at Emmitt Field (7-0-1), becoming the second team in program history to finish with an unbeaten home record. Bucknell allowed just one goal all season on its home grass.
