LEWISBURG, Pa. – Three points are up for grabs on Sunday when the Bucknell women's soccer team hosts Colgate in a rematch of last year's Patriot League Tournament semifinal contest. Sunday's game will also broadcast on the Patriot League Network.
Bucknell and Colgate will be looking for separation on Sunday, as both teams are locked in a four-way tie with Holy Cross and Army West Point for fourth place in the Patriot League with four points each.
The Bison are 5-5-2 overall with a 1-1-1 league record. Bucknell is coming off a 2-2 tie at Lafayette on Wednesday night. Alexis Gannon and Kendall Ham each found the back of the net in the contest, but 110 minutes was not enough to determine a winner. Ham also picked up an assist on the Gannon goal.
Bucknell returns home to Emmitt Field, where the team is undefeated and has not allowed a goal all season. Ham leads the team with seven goals, which ranks second in the Patriot League. The Bison have posted a league-best five shutouts and lead the conference in corner kick opportunities.
Colgate stands at 3-6-1 overall and 1-1-1 in conference play. The Raiders are coming off a 2-0 loss to first-place Boston University on Wednesday. Colgate opened league play with a 3-1 victory against American, followed by a 0-0 draw at Lafayette.
The Raiders have scored 10 goals this season in 10 games, led by Sarah Coy and Emily Crichlow, who've scored three goals apiece. Lauren D'Amico has posted a team-best two assists, while goalkeeper Erin Cummings has appeared and started in all 10 matches, posting two shutouts and 48 saves.
Bucknell and Colgate met twice last season in Hamilton, with the Raiders coming away with both games. Colgate won the first match 2-0 with a pair of late goals from Coy. The second meeting came in the Patriot League Tournament, winning a 2-1 decision in a snowstorm. Bucknell tied the game 1-1 in the 66th minute before Colgate hit the decisive goal in the 77th.
Colgate will see a familiar face on the opposing bench when head coach Kelly Kuss takes on her former team. Kuss, a 2006 graduate of Colgate, was a two-year captain and a three-time Second Team All-Patriot League selection. Kuss ranks in the top 10 in program history in points (77) and assists. In 2004, Kuss led the Raiders to the league title, and helped the team knock off Arizona in the first round of the NCAA Tournament.
The Raiders hold a 21-6-2 lead in the all-time series against the Bison dating back to 1991. Bucknell's last victory over the Raiders was a 1-0 verdict at home in 2010.
Sunday's contest will also be the team's Play 4 the Cure pink game. In conjunction with the Bucknell field hockey team, a basket raffle will be held in front of Holmes Stadium, with the proceeds benefitting the National Foundation for Cancer Research and Relay For Life. The field hockey team will be hosting Saint Joseph's following the women's soccer match at 3 p.m.
Bucknell returns to action on Oct. 10 when the team hosts Navy. Game time is set for 12 p.m.
