LEWISBURG, Pa. -- Kiersten Sydnor (Shippensburg, Pa./Mercersburg Academy) and Nicole Rupnik (Camp Hill, Pa./Cedar Cliff) combined for five goals in Bucknell field hockey's two games last week. On Monday, both players were rewarded by the Patriot League, as Sydnor was named the Corvias Offensive Player of the Week and Rupnik was selected as the Corvias Rookie of the Week.
Sydnor had four goals in two games as the Bison split a pair of home contests over the weekend. She tallied a pair of unassisted goals in Bucknell's 5-2 win over Holy Cross on Saturday, putting the Bison ahead 2-0 in the 27th minute and then making it a 4-1 game in the 49th minute. She then scored both of Bucknell's goals in a 3-2 overtime loss against Penn on Sunday, tying the score at 1-1 in the 21st minute and giving the Bison a 2-1 lead in the 30th minute. Sydnor has taken over the top spot in the Patriot League for both goals (11) and points (25) for the season.
The offensive outburst helped Sydnor climb further up multiple categories in the Bucknell record books. She is now tied with Amanda Faust (2005-08) for fifth all-time with 29 career goals and ranks eighth with 65 points.
Rupnik scored twice in the pivotal league win over Holy Cross. She had the game-winner by opening the scoring in the eighth minute, and tallied the Bison's final goal to make it a 5-1 game in the 59th minute. Rupnik is now tied for sixth in the Patriot League with seven goals for the season.
Bucknell, the defending regular season champion in the Patriot League, has a challenging road ahead, but is still in contention to defend its crown. The Bison would win the title and hosting rights with wins in its final two league games, but those contests are road games at Boston University and American, the two teams predicted to finish at the top of the standings in the preseason poll.
