LEWISBURG, Pa. -- Zack Rockmore, a central defender on the Bucknell men's soccer team, has earned 5th Quarter Fresh Bison Athlete of the Week honors after leading his team to two victories last week, including an important Patriot League win over Navy on Saturday.
On Tuesday, Bucknell scored five second-half goals in a 5-2 non-league road win over Howard, and Rockmore scored the fourth of those goals to help the Bison snap a six-game winless streak (0-3-3).
Bucknell then picked up three key points in the standings on Saturday with a 1-0 shutout victory over Patriot League preseason favorite Navy. The Bison had to play the final 26 minutes of the match with 10 men due to a red card, but Rockmore and the defense held strong.
In a season where Bucknell's lineup has been decimated by injuries, Rockmore has played every minute of every game at center back. He has been the stabilizing force in a back four that has seen a number of changes throughout the season, and he also ranks fourth on the team in goals with three.
The Bison are now 5-5-4 overall and 1-2-2 in the Patriot League. With five points in the league standings, Bucknell is now just one behind Lehigh for the sixth and final Patriot League Tournament spot with four regular-season matches remaining.
The Bison will be at American this Saturday at 1 p.m.
