LEWISBURG, Pa. – Erik Heinemann was a double winner and Bucknell totaled seven first-place finishes as the men's swimming and diving team concluded the regular season Saturday afternoon at the unscored Bison Invite at Kinney Natatorium. Bucknell was one of nine teams at the event, including Patriot League foes American, Lafayette and Loyola.
The Bison had entrants in 15 of the day's 17 events and they won seven of those. Heinemann led the way with his victories in the 100 free and 100 fly. He was part of a deep Bucknell group in the 100 fly as Bison occupied six of the top nine positions and seven of the top 12. Denver Freeman (4th) and Tarik Lott (5th) joined Heinemann in the top five of the event. Heinemann was not alone near the top of the 100 free standings as teammate Jack Robinson placed third.
An impressive list of Bison were also near the top of the 200 IM listing. Chris Devlin won the 200 IM by 1.39 seconds over teammate Louis Behnen. Sean Lyons, Ben Seketa, Lott and Triston Loux went 4-5-6-7, giving Bucknell six of the top seven finishers in the race.
Freeman, who has won the 200 free in a couple recent meets, posted his first win of the season in the 200 fly. He was two spots ahead of Collin Greene, who registered a season-best time in the 200 fly.
Sam Rutan (200 back) posted Bucknell's other individual victory.
The Bison also garnered victories in the two relays in the meet, winning the 200 free and 200 medley relays. Heinemann, Steve Grune, Wes Marberry and Loux teamed up for the 200 free win, while Devlin, Seketa, Loux and Grune captured the 200 medley.
Behnen followed his runner-up showing in the 200 IM with a second-place finish in the 200 free field that had 34 swimmers. Lynch and Devlin finished third and fourth, respectively, with Robinson seventh.
Jeff Shanley was Bucknell's top finisher in two events, placing second in the 400 IM and third in the 500 free.
Bison divers Tyler Wenzel, Jon Jones and Patrick Alvermann also had strong days. Jones had the highest finish of the trio, placing third off the three-meter board with a season-high score of 279.50.
Bucknell will now gear up for the Patriot League Championships, which will take place Feb. 18-21 at Kinney Natatorium.
