LEWISBURG, Pa. – Three members of the Bucknell swimming and diving teams were honored with Patriot League weekly awards on Monday. Emma Levendoski (Mandeville, La./Mandeville) was named Female Swimmer of the Week, while Tara Boyle (Winnetka, Ill./New Trier) and Tyler Wenzel (Telford, Pa./Souderton) swept the conference's Diver of the Week awards.
The three Bison are no strangers to their awards. It was the third Patriot League weekly award this season for both Boyle and Levendoski, while Wenzel picked up his league-high fourth Diver of the Week honor. Levendoski was a four-time Swimmer of the Week last year and now has seven awards in her three-year career.
Bucknell had a busy weekend with the women going 2-0 with wins over Lehigh (home) and Wagner (at Columbia). The men also beat Lehigh at Kinney Natatorium, but then fell at Columbia on Sunday.
Levendoski was cited because of her performance in the pool, where she won her three individual races by a combined 14.51 seconds. The junior had three victories in backstroke events and helped four relays to top-three finishes, including a pair of gold medals, in the weekend's two meets.
Already Bucknell's record holder in both the 100 and 200 backstroke, Levendoski swept those events for the eighth time this season Saturday against Lehigh. She won the 100 back against the Mountain Hawks by 3.33 seconds and followed with a 5.48-second win in the 200 back. Levendoski then won the 200 back against Wagner by 5.70 seconds.
Levendoski's three first-place finishes equaled Boyle for most on the team over the weekend.
Boyle totaled three firsts and one second in her four diving events across the two meets. She swept both boards against Wagner one day after winning the one-meter and finishing runner-up off the three-meter against Lehigh.
Boyle's three-meter score of 265.50 against Wagner was a season-high mark, while her 247.15 off the one-meter was just .55 shy of equaling her season high off that board. It was the second time this season she has swept both boards and extended her streak of not finishing below second in a diving event since late November.
Wenzel leads the Patriot League in Diver of the Week citations this year. He opened the weekend by sweeping both diving events against Lehigh, marking his first sweep of the season and lifting his victory total this year to five. Wenzel's 275.40 off the three-meter marked his sixth consecutive meet eclipsing the 270 plateau.
On Sunday, Wenzel took second off the one-meter board against Columbia.
The Bison will wrap up the regular season this Saturday, Jan. 31, when they host the Bison Invitational at 10:30 a.m. at Kinney Natatorium. Bucknell will then host next month's four-day Patriot League Championships.
