WEST POINT, N.Y. – Bucknell had its four-game road winning streak snapped with a 67-45 loss to Army in Patriot League women's basketball action Sunday at Christl Arena. It was just the second loss by double-digits this season for the Bison, who dropped to 11-6 overall and 3-3 in the conference.
The Black Knights improved to 11-5 overall and 3-3 in the conference as junior Kelsey Minato, the two-time defending Patriot League Player of the Year, and Daizjah Morris combined for 47 points on 15-of-20 shooting, including a 6-of-10 clip from beyond the arc.
“This one got away from us today,” Bucknell head coach Aaron Roussell said. “We have to try to find the right combinations on the floor and right now we aren't doing that. A lot of players are in a rut right now and not playing well. We as coaches have to do a better job of getting the best out of them.”
Sophomore Claire DeBoer just missed posting her second straight double-double for the Bison, finishing with team-highs of 18 points and nine rebounds. Senior Audrey Dotson tallied seven points and six boards.
Army took a 42-25 lead into halftime after outscoring Bucknell 16-4 in the final 3:24. Minato and Morris combined for 31 points in the opening half. Minato hit all three of her 3-point attempts on her way to 16 points, while Morris was 2-of-3 from beyond the arc and poured in 15 points. The two combined to go 10-of-12 from the field.
Army shot 43 percent from long range in the first half and 36 percent for the game, while Bucknell made just one of its 14 attempts. The Black Knights also performed better at the line, making 77 percent (17-22) of its attempts compared to a season-low 59 percent (10-17) for the Bison.
Despite the loss, Bucknell was able to continue its dominance on the boards this season. The Bison held a 40-31 edge in rebounds and have now out-rebounded the opposition in 15 of 17 games.
Bucknell returns home to Sojka Pavilion for a Patriot League game against Loyola (Md.) on Wednesday. The game is scheduled for 7 p.m.
