PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – The Bucknell field hockey team has played three games in 2014 and senior Liz Wills has scored a goal in each. On Sunday her goal was the only one scored in the Bison's 1-0 win at Penn that upped their record to 2-1.
The team leader in both goals (3) and points (7), Wills scored her goal off a deflection on a penalty corner just 9:07 into the contest.
Bucknell's defense was strong the rest of the way as the Quakers managed just four shots – all in the second half – and junior goalie Shannon Keen was called upon to make just one save as she recorded her first career shutout.
There were just 10 total shots taken in the game, including five by the Bison in the first half. Only three total shots were on goal. Bucknell held a 6-5 edge in penalty corners.
This is the second consecutive year the Bison have defeated Penn (1-1) as they evened the all-time series at 2-2.
Bucknell will wrap up its season-opening, five-game road trip next weekend with contests at Saint Joseph's (Friday) and Princeton (Sunday).
