BUFFALO, N.Y. -- Jesse Klug and Pat Plourde scored second-half goals to lift the Bucknell men's soccer team to a 2-0 road win over Buffalo on Sunday afternoon. The victory finishes off a 2-1 road trip for the Bison, who are now 3-2 on the season.
After an uneventful first half, Bucknell turned up the pressure after the intermission and were rewarded with a pair of goals. Klug's second of the season came in the 60th minute, when he gathered a pass from Chris Thorsheim and ripped a shot into the upper left corner. Klug led all players with 10 shot attempts in the game, including a hard shot from distance that rocked the left post later in the half.
In the 78th minute the Bison got a big insurance goal. Mark Leibensperger found Plourde alone in the right side of the area, and Plourde took a touch and fired a low shot through a defender into the left side of the net for his first goal of the season. Bucknell now has seven goals this season from six different players.
"In the second half we finally started to resemble the Bucknell team that will make us successful this year," said head coach Brendan Nash. "We pressured the ball, made smart decisions and really battled. In five games, the second half today was the hardest we have battled."
Mike Lansing returned to the starting lineup and made four saves in his first shutout of the season and 14th of his career. Bucknell outshot Buffalo (1-3) 18-12 overall and 13-5 in the second half. Waleed Casis stopped six shots for the Bulls.
Bucknell will be back in action next Saturday at home against Howard at 2 p.m.
