LEWISBURG, Pa. – The Bucknell field hockey team opened the 2014 campaign last weekend and split against New Jersey foes Rutgers (L, 3-2 OT) and Monmouth (W, 3-1). The Bison will continue their five-game season-opening road trip Sunday with an 11 a.m. contest at Penn.
A free live video broadcast via the Ivy League Digital Network will be available as will live statistics.
This is the second straight year Bucknell and Penn have met. The Bison posted a 2-1 victory over the Quakers last year at Graham Field. Leigh Hillman and Abby Watson scored goals for Bucknell, which is 1-2 all-time opposite Penn. Last year's meeting was the first in the series since 2007.
The Bison last weekend were led on the offensive end of the field by a pair of seniors as Cassie Lawrence and Liz Wills tallied a goal in each game. Classmate Amie Pritchard also scored a goal as all five goals and 13 of the team's 15 points were registered by seniors.
Junior Shannon Keen made her first two career starts in goal and totaled nine saves against four goals allowed. She posted a career-high five stops against Rutgers.
Penn will be opening its 2014 season this weekend against a pair of Patriot League schools. In addition to Sunday's contest against the Bison, the Quakers will host Lehigh on Friday afternoon. It is the first of four consecutive home games to start the season for Penn, which was 13-4 overall and 7-2 at home a year ago.
Bucknell will return to action next weekend when it plays two games to conclude its road trip. The Bison will play at Saint Joseph's Friday (Sept. 12) and Princeton (Sept. 14).
