
Men?s Tennis Claims Three Singles Titles at Bucknell Tournament

The Bison dominated in singles match play, earning three of four top spots overall. Not only did they win three titles, but they were also competing against their fellow teammates in Flights A, B and C, as six Bucknell players made it to the final rounds.
In Flight A Singles, freshman Daniel Wright defeated Washi Gervais from Saint Francis (Pa.) in the semifinals. Maxwell Kane won over Lafayette's Brandon Goldstein, 6-1, 6-4. Wright and Kane faced each other in the finals, and Kane was named the winner.
Senior Octavio Canibe beat Brian Pinkard from Lafayette (6-4, 6-3) in Flight B Singles before playing one of his teammates in the final round. Freshman Ben Gerber prevailed against an opponent from Lafayette, then defeated Canibe, 6-4, 6-4.
William Szamosszegi played in Flight C Singles and won his first collegiate tournament title. He played against teammate Bryan Adams, and Szamosszegi was named the winner (def.).
In Flight D Singles, freshman Timber Erskine fell short of the final round; he was defeated by Steve Williams of Bloomsburg.
In doubles play, Canibe and Gerber went 2-1 and won their last match over Bloomsburg's Gilberto Machado and Mike DiSanto, 8-4. Kane and Wright almost clinched the Flight A Doubles title, but lost to a duo from Lafayette. Szamosszegi and Erskine also came up short in Flight B Doubles, but finished 2-1 in the tournament.
Junior Nick Bybel was successful in his first day at the ITA All-American Championships in Tulsa, Okla. After receiving a bye in the prequalifying round, he won his first match, 6-4, 6-4.
Bucknell will travel to Charlottesville, Va. next weekend to participate in the Virginia Fall Classic.
