LEWISBURG, Pa. -- The Bucknell men's soccer team, winner of three of its last four games, hosts the Bison of Howard on Saturday at 2 p.m. at Emmitt Field at Holmes Stadium. The non-league match will be preceded by a free pregame tailgate for the first 500 fans in attendance. The Bucknell club soccer team will help distribute hamburgers, hot dogs and candy starting at 1:30 p.m.
Brendan Nash's Bucknell squad just completed a 2-1 road trip, with both wins coming by 2-0 counts over Saint Francis (Pa.) and Buffalo. The loss was a 1-0 setback at Canisius last Friday. Now 3-2 on the season, the Bison now play four of their next six at home.
Junior striker Jesse Klug scored the opening goal against both Saint Francis and Buffalo, and he leads a balanced scoring attack with two goals and four points on the season. Chris Thorsheim and Jonathan Grad both have a goal and an assist, and Pat Plourde, Patrick Figgie and Justin Galiani also have goals. Bucknell has seven goals on the season from six different players, and the team has only allowed three goals in five contests.
Mike Lansing and Clarke Fox have shared the goalkeeper duties thus far, and they have combined for three shutouts and a stellar 0.60 goals-against average. Nash has looked at a few different back-four combinations in the early going, but the constant has been center back Zack Rockmore. The junior transfer from Boston College has started all five games on the back line, and he is part of a defense that has limited opponents to only 9.2 total shots and 3.0 shots on frame per contest.
Howard comes to Lewisburg looking for its first victory of the season. The Bison are 0-6 following a 1-0 loss at Saint Joseph's on Wednesday, and they have been outscored 22-1 on the season. Austin Williams has the team's lone goal, coming against George Washington on Aug. 31.
Howard is a first-year affiliate member of the Sun Belt Conference in men's soccer, and it is the second Sun Belt team Bucknell has played this season. Bucknell topped Hartwick 2-0 on Aug. 31.
This will be the first-ever meeting between Bucknell and Howard in men's soccer.
Following Saturday's game, Bucknell will have a full week off before hosting Xavier on Sept. 20 at 2 p.m.
