LAWRENCEVILLE, N.J. -- Michelle Iacono scored 9:07 into overtime to lift Rider to a 1-0 victory over Bucknell in a non-league women's soccer game Sunday afternoon at Ben Cohen Field. The Bison fell to 1-2 on the season despite outshooting the Broncs 15-6 and holding a 10-2 edge in corner kicks.
Bethany-May Howard tallied nine saves for Rider (2-1), including a good one on a free kick from Evelyn Nicinski in the first half. Howard made another key stop on Alexis Gannon with about 12 minutes left in regulation, and she also saved two shots in overtime. Jessie Ashworth had four saves for the Bison.
The Bison were coming off a 2-0 win over Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference preseason favorite and defending champion Monmouth on Friday, but they could not quite pull off the MAAC New Jersey sweep on Sunday.
"We did a lot of good things but it just wasn't our day," said head coach Ben Landis afterward. "So far we have used a lot of our depth and we are developing a lot of different options. It will good to be back home on Tuesday night."
Nicinski led the Bison with four shot attempts on Sunday, while Brigit Falcón and Kendall Ham had two each. Bucknell used 21 players in the game on 90-degree day in New Jersey.
After playing their first three games of the season on the road, the Bison return home to face UMBC on Tuesday night at 7 p.m. The contest will air live on Bison Vision on the Patriot League Network.
