Josh Brake Named an Allstate AFCA Good Works Team Nominee

LEWISBURG, Pa. – Bucknell football senior wide receiver Josh Brake (Flower Mound, Texas/Flower Mound) was recently named an Allstate American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) Good Works Team nominee. The award recognizes players whose charitable involvement and community service contributions stand out among all other student-athletes participating in the sport.
Brake was one of more than 90 players from FCS, Division II, Division III and NAIA schools recognized. Eleven of those student-athletes will comprise be named to the Allstate AFCA Good Works Team in September.
A two-year starter, Brake recently represented Bucknell in Mexico with the Athletes in Action organization. He joined athletes and coaches from all over the United States who visited two universities where they shared their football knowledge, faith, and worked with the local players and coaches.
Other off-the-field activities for Brake include working with special needs children as a teacher's aide, serving as an escort to the special needs ball and leading a Bucknell football bible study. The two-time Patriot League Academic Honor Roll member was also a leader in the Fellowship of Christian Athletes Camp.
On the field, Brake enters his senior campaign just 97 yards shy of 1,000 for his career. Last year he led the Bison with a career-high 445 yards on 33 receptions. He posted his first career 100-yard outing with 129 receiving yards vs. Holy Cross and he has caught at least one pass in 17 consecutive games.
Brake and his Bison teammates will begin preseason practice Aug. 4. Bucknell's season opener is Aug. 30 vs. VMI at 6 p.m. at Christy Mathewson-Memorial Stadium.
