LEWISBURG, Pa. – Last week, the Bucknell swimming and diving teams were honored for their academic achievements by the College Swimming Coaches of America (CSCAA). This week, three Bison earned individual awards from the CSCAA as Louis Behnen, Mike Nicholson and Tara Boyle were named Honorable Mention Scholar All-Americans.
The CSCAA Honorable Mention Scholar All-America Award is presented to swimmers and divers who have achieved a grade-point average of 3.5 or higher for the semester, or cumulative average, and have achieved a “B” time standard but did not compete in their national championship. Divers qualify by competing at their respective championship qualifying meets, zones or NCAA preliminary rounds.
A member of the Patriot League Academic Honor Roll, Behnen completed his freshman year ranked in the top 10 in program history in six individual events, including second-place rankings in five events. He was a First Team All-Patriot League selection after three top-five showings at the league championship meet.
One of the most decorated swimmers in program history, Nicholson was also a member of the Patriot League Academic Honor Roll and a First Team All-Patriot League selection this past season, his final one as a Bison. He graduated this past May with a degree in sociology and five individual school records and four All-Patriot League honors. A 2012 U.S. Olympic Trials participant, Nicholson finished his career with three Patriot League gold medals and was the highest point scorer at the Patriot League Championships in the Class of 2014.
Boyle, who completed her junior year this past season, is a two-time Academic All-Patriot League selection and a three-time Patriot League Academic Honor Roll member. This past February she became just the second person in Patriot League history to win the one-meter diving crown three straight years when she set a program record en route to a gold medal. She also finished second off the three-meter with a career-best score to help garner Patriot League Diver of the Meet plaudits.
