LEWISBURG, Pa. – The Bucknell football program has released its 2014 schedule, which includes a season-opening home game against VMI on Labor Day Weekend, a Friday night home contest vs. Fordham that will be televised nationally on CBS Sports Network and all six Patriot League matchups in succession as the season hits the home stretch.
The Bison will open their 2014 campaign against the same team they defeated to wrap up a winning 2013 season as they welcome the Keydets to Christy Mathewson-Memorial Stadium Aug. 30. Bucknell downed VMI last November in Lexington, Virginia, to finish with a 6-5 record.
Road games at Marist (Sept. 6), Sacred Heart (Sept. 20) and Bryant (Oct. 4), as well as a Family Weekend home contest against Cornell (Sept. 27) are the other non-league games for the Bison. Each of those opponents were on Bucknell's 2013 schedule, with Marist and Cornell being longtime regular Bison foes.
The Patriot League campaign will kick off with an Oct. 11 road game at Lehigh. Bucknell trounced the Mountain Hawks 48-10 last October at Christy Mathewson-Memorial Stadium.
The Bison will conclude the campaign with five Patriot League games in five weeks, starting with an Oct. 25 road outing at Georgetown. Bucknell will then play three of its next four on its home field, hosting Lafayette (Nov. 1) on Homecoming Weekend, Fordham (Nov. 7) and Colgate (Nov. 22), while hitting the road one last time to travel to Worcester, Massachusetts, to take on Holy Cross (Nov. 15).
The game against Fordham will be played on a Friday night at Christy Mathewson-Memorial Stadium with kickoff slated for 6:30 p.m. The contest will air on CBS Sports Network and will be a rematch of last year's contest that saw Bucknell come within a last-second blocked field goal of beating the undefeated and top-10 ranked Rams on their home field. It will be the first non-Saturday game for the Bison since they played at Villanova on a Thursday to open the 2004 schedule.
Kickoff times for most games will be announced at a later date.
Bucknell has posted a 6-5 record in two of the last three years and returns regular starters at 17 positions. Additionally, the Bison will welcome back six of their seven All-Patriot League selections from a year ago.
