LEWISBURG, Pa. – For the second straight week, and the third time overall this season, Bucknell women's water polo senior goalie Rena Heim (Mohnton, Pa./Governor Mifflin) has been named the CWPA Southern Division Defensive Player of the Week, the league office announced Thursday. Heim helped the Bison to a 2-1 record and a third-place finish at last weekend's Southern Championships.
Heim, Bucknell's starter in cage in all 51 games over the last two years, totaled 26 saves against just 20 goals allowed in the three games over the weekend. She posted nine stops in a win over Mercyhurst, 10 in a loss to Brown and seven in the third-place game win over Harvard.
With her double-figure save performance against Brown, Heim now has 10 games with at least 10 saves this year. Her 198 saves put her in striking distance of her third consecutive 200-save campaign and her .520 save percentage is a career-best figure.
A three-year starter, Heim's 859 career saves rank third in program history. She is now just 33 stops behind second-place Lindsay Chesterfield.
Heim and the Bison will next be in action next weekend, April 25-27, when they host the CWPA Championship at Kinney Natatorium. Bucknell is the sixth seed in the eight-team field and will open play Friday, April 25, at 3 p.m. vs. third-seeded Hartwick.
