LEWISBURG, Pa. – While the 2013 field hockey season concluded several months ago and most of the nation's squads have shifted their focus to the 2014 season, the Bucknell field hockey team was recently honored one more time for its accomplishments during the fall, receiving several academic awards from the National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA). Fourteen Bison earned a spot on the 2013 Gladiator by SGI/NFHCA Division I National Academic squad, while sophomore Abby Watson and freshman Anna Wills were also named Scholars of Distinction. In addition, Bucknell was one of 72 teams to receive a National Academic Team Award from the NFHCA.
Watson and Wills were amongst the 72 Division I field hockey players who were named Scholars of Distinction this season, and were joined by seven other Patriot League student-athletes. The honorees have achieved a cumulative GPA of 3.90 or higher through the first semester of the 2013-14 academic year. Watson, who is majoring in civil engineering, also earned the accolade during her rookie campaign, while Wills has garnered the award during her first season with the program.
In addition, eleven Bison were named to the Division I National Academic Squad, which includes student-athletes who have maintained a cumulative GPA of 3.30 or higher. Seniors Rachel Misko, the 2013 Patriot League Field Hockey Scholar Athlete of the Year, and Erica Perrine both earned spots of the team, becoming four-time honorees.
