PINEHURST, N.C. -- Weather played havoc with the Pinehurst Challenge this weekend, but the 14-team field managed to get in 36 holes before play was halted by rain on Sunday afternoon. Lauren Bernard's second-round 75 was the best score turned in by the Bison, who finished in a tie for 12th place with Siena.
With rain predicted to move into the area on Sunday afternoon, the original Sunday-Monday schedule was bumped up a day at Pinehurst No. 1. Bucknell was one of a handful of teams that was unable to finish its first round before darkness fell on Saturday evening. The Bison concluded that first round early on Sunday morning, with Emily Timmons' 80 the low round in a 327 team score. Bucknell bettered that mark with a 317 in round two, led by the 3-over-par 75 from Bernard and a 78 from Bridget Wilcox.
Bernard shot 82 in the first round, and her team-best 157 total put her in a tie for 28th individually. Wilcox (83-78) and Timmons (80-81) both finished at 161, followed by Kasha Scott (82-83) and Meghan Garanich (87-83).
Tournament host College of Charleston won the tournament with a 583 total (294-289). Jacksonville State was a distant second at 605, followed by High Point at 611, Jacksonville at 616 and Middle Tennessee State at 620.
Charleston's Lauren Fuenfstueck and Jacksonville State's Maya Parsons both finished at 3-under to share the individual title. The next-highest finishers were 3-over.
Bucknell will be back in action on Apr. 5-6 at the Seton Hall Pirate Invitational. That will be the team's final tuneup prior to the Patriot League Championship Apr. 19-20 at Saucon Valley Country Club.
