LAS VEGAS, Nev. -- The Bison women's golf team kicked off play Monday afternoon in its annual spring tournament at Paiute Golf Resort in Las Vegas, and an 81 from Bridget Wilcox paced the team to an opening-round 332 team score. Bucknell is tied for fifth place, one shot behind fourth-place Eastern Washington.
Backing up Wilcox's 81 was Lauren Bernard with an 82. The Bison also counted two scores from first-year players, as Emily Larson posted an 84 and Callie Nelson an 85. Emily Timmons shot 87. Wilcox is tied for 11th place individually.
Also playing as individuals for Bucknell were Nicole Mischler (91) and Meghan Garanich (94).
Lynn University of Florida, the reigning NCAA Division II national champion, claimed the top four individual scores on Monday and has a commanding 19 stroke lead over second-place Tennessee Tech. Jessica Bradley shot a 1-over 73, Samantha Smolen carded a 75 and Ellen Chambers and Irene Calvo both shot 76 to send Lynn to a 300 team score.
Round two begins at 11 a.m. (Eastern) with a shotgun start.
