LEWISBURG, Pa. -- Bucknell senior attackmen Todd Heritage has been selected as one of 20 finalists for the Senior CLASS Award for men's lacrosse. The award recognizes NCAA Division I seniors who have notable achievements in four areas of excellence: community, classroom, character and competition.
Heritage is a team captain in 2014 and one of the top goal-scorers in the country. A four-year starter, Heritage has 98 career goals, seventh-most in Bucknell history. He ranked sixth in the Patriot League with 34 goals last season, and his career high is 35 goals in 2012.
Away from the lacrosse field, Heritage is a Dean's List student majoring in environmental studies with minors in political science and religion. He was named to the Patriot League Men's Lacrosse All-Academic Team in 2013 and has also been an annual member of the Patriot League Academic Honor Roll.
This past summer, Heritage was selected to be a sales and marketing intern at ESPN, where he worked with the marketing team promoting the College GameDay show and the network's college football programming.
Heritage was selected to be a student alumni liaison at Bucknell's "WE DO" campaign fundraiser in New York City last year, and he is the lacrosse team's Senior Fundraising Chair. Heritage has been a part of the National Leadership Academy for his fraternity (Fiji), and in the local community he has spent time as an academic tutor and mentor through Bucknell Buddies and Learning Connections. He is a member of Bucknell Student Voices, which advocates social responsibility and coordinates non-alcoholic programming for students. Heritage is a member of that organization's Committee of Athletes, and he was a coordinator of the “Bison Idol” talent show.
An acronym for Celebrating Loyalty and Achievement for Staying in School®, the Senior CLASS Award focuses on the total student-athlete and encourages students to use their platform in athletics to make a positive impact as leaders in their communities.
The candidate class will be narrowed to 10 finalists midway through the regular season, and those names will be placed on the official ballot. Ballots will be distributed through a nationwide voting system to media, coaches and fans, who will select one finalist who best exemplifies excellence in the four Cs of community, classroom, character and competition. The Senior CLASS Award winner will be announced during the 2014 NCAA Lacrosse Championships in Baltimore May 24-26.
Heritage is one of four Patriot League student-athletes among the 20 candidates, joining Ty Souders of Lehigh and Joe Fletcher and Justin Ward of Loyola.
