LEWISBURG, Pa. -- Winter Storm Pax has forced the postponement of the Bucknell-Bryant men's lacrosse game to Sunday at 2 p.m. at the Bryant Turf Complex in Smithfield, R.I. The contest will be streamed live and free of charge on NECFrontRow.com.
No. 14/15 Bucknell is coming off a 6-4 home victory over Delaware in Saturday's season opener. Defending Northeast Conference champion Bryant also played a low-scoring game last week, falling to Colgate 7-4 on the road.
A 12-save performance from Sam Grinberg and strong work from the defensive unit paved the way to victory for the Bison againt Delaware. Grinberg was named Patriot League Goalie of the Week on Monday, while senior defenseman Jackson Place earned Defensive Player of the Week honors.
Offensively, Bucknell had six different goal-scorers, with sophomore midfielder Kyle Shanahan producing both a goal and an assist. Ryan Joseph logged the first goal of the season, and Thomas Flibotte, Todd Heritage, Peter Burke and Sean Doyle also hit the net.
Bucknell will face a major challenge at the faceoff X on Sunday, as Bryant junior Kevin Massa led the nation in faceoff percentage (.726) and ground balls (231) last season. Massa net NCAA single-season records for faceoff wins and ground balls, and he went 22-for-23 at the X against top-seeded Syracuse in the NCAA Tournament.
Massa was 13-for-20 with eight ground balls at Bucknell last year, but the Bison won the first-ever meeting between the two schools 10-8. Chase Bailey had three goals and an assist, David Dickson dished out four assists, and Tom Black and Thomas Flibotte added two goals apiece for Bucknell. Alex Zomerfeld tallied a goal and three assists to lead the Bulldogs.
Following the Bryant game, Bucknell will play Patriot League contests against Navy, Colgate and Lehigh on each of the next three Saturdays. The Bison will host Navy on Feb. 22 at 3 p.m. on Bison Vision on the Patriot League Network.
