LEWISBURG, Pa. -- Courtney Nelson, a standout senior defender on the Bucknell women's soccer team, was named to the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) All-Mid-Atlantic Region Third Team on Wednesday. Nelson was also a Second Team All-Patriot League and Academic All-Patriot League selection this fall.
Nelson was a Third Team All-Patriot League selection in 2013, and she moved up to the second team as a senior this season. The speedy right back was a force for the Bison, both defensively and as an offensive facilitator. She recorded a goal and three assists this season -- with the goal coming in the Patriot League semifinals against Colgate -- and in 73 career games she recorded seven goals and 12 assists.
Nelson is Bucknell's seventh all-region honoree in women's soccer and the fifth under head coach Ben Landis, who just completed his 10th season on the Bison sideline. Nelson's classmate, Evelyn Nicinski, was a third team choice in 2013, and previous Bucknell selections include Christa Matlack (2009), Jennifer Dervarics (2008), Nicole Marotta (2006), Savannah Rennels (2001) and Lisa Gibbons (1994).
The Bison finished 10-9-2 this season, including a win at Army in the Patriot League Tournament quarterfinals.
