LEWISBURG, Pa. – The Bucknell field hockey team placed four players on the Academic All-Patriot League Team, as announced by the conference on Wednesday. Kelsey Mucelli, Abby Watson, Liz Wills and Anna Wills were all voted to the 11-player team by the league's sports information directors.
Bucknell's four selections were its most since 2010 and led the conference. American, with three players voted to the team, was the only other school with multiple players honored. To be eligible for the Academic All-Patriot League Team, a student-athlete must have at least a 3.20 cumulative grade point average and have played in at least 50 percent of her team's games. Freshmen or students in their first academic year at their school are not eligible for the honor.
A Dean's List student with a 3.67 GPA in chemical engineering, Mucelli makes her first appearance on the Academic All-Patriot League Team. She is a three-time member of both the Patriot League Academic Honor Roll and the NFHCA All-Academic Team. On the field, she has earned First Team All-Patriot League honors three times. Her 21 assists rank sixth in program history.
Watson has been named to the Academic All-Patriot League Team in each of the past two seasons. The junior has a near-perfect GPA of 3.99 in chemical engineering. A Dean's List student, Watson was named to the NFHCA Division I Scholars of Distinction list for achieving a perfect 4.0 GPA during her freshman season. She has played a pivotal role in the Bison's success this season with great all-around play. Her two goals were both game-winners and she has added five assists.
Anna Wills also has an impressive GPA, holding a 3.95. The sophomore added NFHCA All-Academic Team and Patriot League Academic Honor Roll to her resume following her freshman season. She has two goals and two assists this season, and was named the Patriot League Defensive Player of the Week following wins over Lehigh and Lock Haven last weekend.
A double major in environmental science and geology with a 3.37 GPA, Liz Wills also earns the academic honor for the first time. She adds the award to the three NFHCA All-Academic Team and three Patriot League Honor Roll appearances she has made in her career. Additionally, she has won two PL Defensive Player of the Week awards and one Offensive Player of the Week award this season.
