LEWISBURG, Pa. -- As the Bucknell women's soccer team finalizes its preparations for Tuesday's Patriot League Tournament quarterfinal game at Army, two Bison on Monday learned that they have earned All-Patriot League honors. Senior defender Courtney Nelson garnered all-conference status for the second year in a row, while junior midfielder Madison Loos was honored for the first time. Nelson and Loos were both Second Team selections.
Nelson was a Third Team All-Patriot League selection in 2013, and now she moves up to the second team. The speedy right back has been a force for the Bison, both defensively and as an offensive facilitator. She has recorded three assists this season, and in 71 career games she has six goals and 12 assists.
Loos has enjoyed an outstanding junior year as a central midfielder for the Bison. She had yet to register a career point coming into this season, but in 2014 she has upped her production significantly. Loos has nine points this year, coming from two goals and a team-high five assists. The goals came in back-to-back games against Jacksonville and Army in September, and she has recorded assists in each of her last two contests heading into the postseason. Loos' five assists are second-most in the Patriot League.
Bucknell has now claimed multiple all-league selections in each of the last 11 seasons.
At 9-8-2 overall and 4-4-1 in the Patriot League, the Bison earned the No. 5 seed for the Patriot League Tournament with 13 points. Tuesday they will visit No. 4 Army (7-8-3, 4-2-3 PL). Colgate is the No. 1 seed and will host the semifinals and championship game on Friday and Sunday.
Tuesday's Bucknell-Army game will be webcast live on the Patriot League Network at 7 p.m. The other quarterfinal matchup pits No. 6 Loyola at No. 3 Navy, also at 7 p.m. on PLN.
Bucknell and Army are both looking to rebound from losses in their regular-season finales this past weekend. The Bison fell at home, 2-1 to second-place Boston University, while Army took a 3-0 loss at Navy.
First Team All-Patriot League forward Katie Holder leads Army in scoring with six goals. Sam Gottlieb has three goals, and Bailey Widman, Clare Shea and Hanna Rozzi have two each. Shea was Army's only other all-conference selection, earning Third Team honors as a midfielder.
Freshman Kendall Ham leads Bucknell with five goals, and Alexis Gannon and Brigit Falcón have three. Freshman Meghan Holtz tallied her first collegiate goal on Saturday against Boston University, giving Bucknell 13 different goal-scorers this season. That is the most under 10th-year head coach Ben Landis.
The Bison and Black Knights met back on Sept. 20 at West Point, and Army rallied for a 2-1 win. Loos scored off a Gannon assist in the 33rd minute for the Bison. Army tied it on a goal by Holder in the 65th minute, then won it on a Mallory Herron penalty kick with 1:32 left in the match. Bucknell is now 12-17-2 all-time against Army.
The Bison also played a Patriot League Tournament quarterfinal game on the road last season. After playing 110 minutes of scoreless soccer at Colgate, the Raiders advanced on penalty kicks.
Bucknell has won the Patriot League Tournament twice previously, in 2001 and 2005.
