LEWISBURG, Pa. – One day after having nine players named All-Patriot League and claiming two major awards, the Bucknell football team had three players named to the Academic All-Patriot League on Wednesday. Junior RB Matt DelMauro (Nutley, N.J./Nutley), senior TE/WR Jake Hartman (Little Egg Harbor, N.J./Pinelands) and senior K/P Derek Maurer (Piscataway, N.J./Piscataway) were the three Bison recognized as Bucknell tied Colgate and Holy Cross for the most honorees on the 14-person team.
DelMauro and Hartman made their first appearances on the Academic All-Patriot League Team, while Maurer was cited for a second consecutive year.
A Capital One Academic All-District selection and a two-time member of the Patriot League Academic Honor Roll, DelMauro was second on the Bison in rushing yards (588) this year. He also had 162 yards receiving and was third on the team with seven total touchdowns, including six on the ground. DelMauro was especially strong down the stretch, totaling 410 rushing yards during Patriot League play, including his first 100-yard performance with 139 in an overtime win at Holy Cross.
A veteran of 20 career games, DelMauro completed his junior campaign with 1,075 career yards on 243 carries. He has scored 10 career touchdowns.
Off the field, DelMauro is an accounting and financial management major. He is a member of Alpha Lambda Delta Honor Society and has been on the Dean's List during his time at Bucknell. DelMauro has participated in Derby Days, a fundraiser for Children's Hospital, and is part of the CHAMP mentoring program. He has also been part of leadership programs with Ernst & Young and KPMG.
Hartman is an education and psychology major who has been a member of the Patriot League Academic Honor Roll. The senior had a breakout final part of his senior campaign, totaling 17 catches for 272 yards over his final three full games played. Included in that stretch was a seven-catch performance for a career-high 134 yards against Lafayette that saw him tie the program record for touchdown receptions in a game (3).
Hartman finished the year second on the team in both catches (28) and yards (468). He spent the first part of the year playing at tight end before moving over to wide receiver, a position he played early in his Bison tenure.
Named a semifinalist for the Campbell Trophy earlier this fall, Maurer joined DelMauro on the Capital One Academic All-District Team. He is a managing for sustainability major with a grade-point average nearing 4.0. This past summer he worked with teammate Trey Lauletta on developing a student consulting firm that connects Bucknell's student body to community organizations. He is also a member of the Lewisburg Downtown Partnership's Business Innovation Committee.
An active member of InterVarsity Christian Fellowship and a student interviewer on a search committee for faculty positions in Bucknell's school of management, Maurer joins Tom Bolte (2010 & 2011) as the only Bison to earn multiple Academic All-Patriot League Team honors since the award was started in 2010.
Maurer had an impressive senior season as he handled all kicking duties for the Bison. He was 11-for-14 on field goals, 30-for-35 on extra points, punted 49 times for an average of 35.6 yards and kicked off 54 times, averaging more than 60 yards each time. Maurer tied for sixth on Bucknell's single-season field goals list and his 63 points led the team. That number also ranks third in the Bison record book for single-season points by kicking.
Maurer will graduate with 111 career points, all of which were accumulated over his final two campaigns. He made 20 field goals and 51 extra points in his career.
To be eligible for the Scholar-Athlete of the Year award and the Academic All-Patriot League Team, a student-athlete must have at least a 3.20 cumulative grade point average and be a starter or key player in his/her sport. Freshmen or students in their first academic year at their school are not eligible for the honor.
DelMauro, Hartman and Maurer were part of a Bucknell team that wrapped up the 2014 season 8-3 overall and 4-2 in Patriot League play. The Bison finished in sole possession of second place in the Patriot League standings and posted a second straight winning season for the first time since 2000 and 2001.
