LEWISBURG, Pa. – The Bucknell field hockey team has placed two players on the 2014 Longstreth/National Field Hockey Coaches Association All-Mideast Region Team. Senior midfielder Kelsey Mucelli and senior defender Liz Wills were both selected to the All-Mideast Region Second Team.
Mucelli, a three-time All-Patriot League First Team honoree, earns all-region status for the first time in her great career with the Bison. She tied for the conference lead with seven assists this season, leading the team to a perfect 7-0 record in games she recorded an assist. She also added a goal and was sixth on the team with nine points.
For her career, Mucelli tallied 20 assists, which is good enough for sixth on the program's all-time list. She also excelled in the classroom. She was a Dean's List Student, a member of the Patriot League Academic Honor Roll, and capped her career with Academic All-Patriot League honors this season.
Wills also makes her first appearance on the All-Mideast Region team after an outstanding season both offensively and defensively. She tied for second in the conference in both points with 20 and goals with eight. Three of her goals were game-winners, which tied for the most in the league. Both Mucelli and Wills played key roles in the defensive effort that resulted in eight shutouts and the Patriot League's lowest goals against average (1.41).
Wills' list of awards this season also included First Team All-Patriot League honors, Academic All-Patriot League accolades, two conference Defensive Player of the Week awards and one for Offensive Player of the Week.
The Bison finished 13-6 for their best winning percentage since the 1977 season. They won the Patriot League regular season title with a perfect 6-0 record and hosted the conference tournament for the first time in program history. Following a win over Colgate in the semifinals, they saw their season come to an end with a 2-1 loss to nationally-ranked Boston University.
