UPDATE -- Bucknell will be the No. 5 seed for the Patriot League Tournament and will play at Army in a quarterfinal match on Tuesday night.
LEWISBURG, Pa. -- The Bucknell women's soccer team will be headed on the road for the Patriot League Tournament after falling 2-1 to Boston University in the final game of the regular season on Saturday at Emmitt Field at Holmes Stadium. Freshman Meghan Holtz tallied her first career goal for the Bison, but they could not get all the way back from a 2-0 halftime deficit.
Bucknell finishes the regular season 9-8-2 overall and 4-4-1 in the Patriot League. The Bison could have moved up to the No. 4 seed and hosted a Patriot League Tournament quarterfinal game with a victory over Boston University (12-4-3, 6-1-2 PL), but instead they will be seeded either fifth or sixth and play on the road on Tuesday against an opponent still to be determined.
Boston University moved into a tie for first place and could potentially be the No. 1 seed depending on the result of the Colgate-American game later in the day. The Terriers saw more of the ball in the first half in this one and scored twice in a span of 3:36 late in the first half.
The first goal came from a corner kick sequence in the 34th minute. The ball landed in the center of the box and the Bison could not get it cleared. Boston University's Jamie Turchi then touched it over to Kai Miller, who jabbed it into the roof of the net.
In the 37th minute, Christina Wakefield took the ball into the right side of the area and slotted a shot off the left post and in.
That second goal would be needed, as the Bison turned the tide in the second half with extra attacking players on the field. Bucknell outshot the Terriers 9-3 in the second half after being outshot 8-1 in the opening 45 minutes.
The Bison cut the deficit in half in the 67th minute on a beautiful give-and-go between Holtz and Madison Loos. Holtz got behind the defense and struck a left-footed shot past keeper Alyssa Parisi for her first collegiate goal.
The Bison kept the pressure on, and Parisi had to make an important play to barely outrace Cassie Denger to a through ball with six minutes to play. Parisi made a save on an 18-yard attempt from Kelsey Witt in the final minute, and then she secured a low cross in the final 10 seconds to preserve the win for the Terriers.
Jessie Ashworth made four saves in goal for the Bison, while Parisi had two saves. Bucknell led 5-2 in corner kicks.
