LEWISBURG, Pa. – Following a big win against a conference opponent on Saturday, the Bucknell field hockey team was back in action Sunday, falling 6-0 to Drexel in a non-conference game. Rachel Sumfest, a Lewisburg, Pennsylvania native, did most of the damage for the Dragons with three goals and two assists.
The Bison dropped to 6-3 overall with the loss, but exit the weekend as one of just two teams unbeaten in Patriot League play. The Dragons improved to 7-4 with their fourth win in five games.
Sumfest, the Dragons' top scorer with eight goals this season, scored twice in the first half and completed the hat trick with her third goal 10 minutes into the second half.
It appeared as if it would be a one-goal game at the half, but Drexel received a penalty corner as time was expiring. Following a shot off the post, Sumfest snagged the rebound and finished to put the Dragons up 2-0.
The Bison had their chances in the first half. They out-shot the Dragons 8-6 and had two shots on goal. Liz Wills and Cassie Lawrence had the shots on goal, both coming off penalty corners.
After Sumfest's goal put the Dragons up 3-0, Idrienne Walker, Jenna Knouse and Mary Lynam all scored in the final 13 minutes of the game. Lynam's goal came off a penalty corner with no time left in the game.
Bucknell finished with an edge in shots (11-10) and penalty corners (6-5). Wills had two shots on goal, while Abby Watson added one in the second half.
The Bison will look to get back on track when they travel for a pair of games next weekend. They will play Patriot League foe Holy Cross on Saturday and will take on UMass Lowell in a non-conference matchup on Sunday.
