LEWISBURG, Pa. – Bucknell sophomore CB Nick O'Brien (Exeter, Pa./Wyoming Area) became the seventh different Bison football player to earn a weekly award from the Patriot League this season when he was named Special Teams Player of the Week on Monday. O'Brien totaled a career-high 153 all-purpose yards and joined Derek Maurer as Bison to earn the special teams weekly award this season from the conference office.
O'Brien did a little bit of everything in helping Bucknell to a 22-17 win at Georgetown on Saturday, returning punts, kicks and playing strong defense. He returned two punts for 41 yards, including a career-best 23 yarder in the third quarter, and he returned four kickoffs a total of 86 yards. Additionally, O'Brien made three tackles on defense and recorded his first career interception and returned it 26 yards to set up a 20-yard field goal by Maurer.
O'Brien missed the first two games this season with an injury, but returned to the starting lineup in week three at Sacred Heart and has been stellar. The sophomore has 23 tackles, 1.5 tackles for loss and two pass breakups on defense. He also leads the Bison in total return yards with 246 between punt (69) and kick (177) returns.
A veteran of 15 career games as a Bison, O'Brien has 56 tackles, three tackles for loss and eight pass breakups in his two-year career. He also has 509 career kickoff return yards and 69 on punt returns.
O'Brien and his Bucknell teammates will be back in action this Saturday, Nov. 1, when they host Lafayette in a 1 p.m. Homecoming contest.
