Swimming & Diving Hits Road Saturday for Dual Meet at Pittsburgh
10/24/2014 7:33:00 AM | Men's Swimming and Diving
LEWISBURG, Pa. – The Bucknell swimming and diving teams will be on the road just three times during the 2014-15 regular season and the first of those is Saturday at Pittsburgh. The meet will begin at 11 a.m. with diving, followed by the swimming events. The start time was changed earlier this week to avoid conflicts with Pittsburgh's Homecoming football game vs. Georgia Tech (3:30 p.m.).
Bucknell's men are coming off a sweep of a double dual against Boston U. and George Washington last Saturday at Kinney Natatorium. It was the first scored meet of the year for the Bison, who opened their season against UMBC on Oct. 5.
The Bucknell women split last Saturday's meet, defeating George Washington and falling to Boston U.
This is the second straight year the Bison and Panthers have met. Last year, the men lost to Pittsburgh by a 199-99 score in the first meeting between the two teams since 1978-79. Bucknell trails the all-time men's series by an 8-6 margin.
On the women's side, Pittsburgh won last year's dual 209-90 and have won both meetings between the two teams. The only other time the squads met was in 1975-76 with the Panthers posting an 80-42 victory.
Pittsburgh's men are 1-1 on the young season, while the women are 2-1. Both squads will host St. Bonaventure Friday afternoon to kick off the weekend.
Bucknell will be idle next weekend for its own Homecoming, but will return to the pool Nov. 8 for a quad meet against Patriot League foes American, Lafayette and Navy. Start time for that meet is noon at Kinney Natatorium.
