Bybel Advances to Next Round at Mid-Atlantic Regionals

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va.- Day three of the ITA Mid-Atlantic Regional Tournament took place on Saturday. Nick Bybel was the last member of Bucknell's men's tennis team remaining in the main draw, and he will live to see another day in the tournament.

After receiving a bye in the first round of play, Bybel took on Addison Appleby from William and Mary and prevailed, 6-3, 6-3. In the following round, he faced Virginia Tech's Aaron Gomez. The Bucknell junior defeated his opponent (7-5, 6-0) to advance to the round of 16.

On Sunday, Oct. 19, Bybel will take on Thai-son Kwiatkowski from the host team, University of Virginia. Kwiatkowski won matches over opponents from George Mason and Penn State to advance to this round.

In consolation play, freshman Maxwell Kane faced Kyle Chalmers from St. Joe's. He took home another win for Bucknell (6-2, 6-4) and sits at a 1-1 record in the tournament. This is the first collegiate tournament Kane has qualified for.

Play continues tomorrow as Bybel hopes to advance to the next round. The players remaining in the round of 16 will compete on Sunday, and quarterfinal and semifinal rounds will take place on Monday. The tournament ends on Tuesday, Oct. 21 with main singles and doubles finals.
