Maxwell Kane Prevails in Qualifying Round at Mid-Atlantic Regionals

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va.- The men's tennis team began its journey at the ITA Mid-Atlantic Regionals on Thursday. The first day of play consisted of qualifying matches, in which two Bucknell student-athletes participated.

Freshman Maxwell Kane qualified for his first collegiate tournament in singles play. He beat George Mason's Nick Barker, 6-1, 6-1 in the first round. Kane went on to defeat Hicham Belkssir from Temple, 6-4, 6-0, to advance to the main singles draw. He will face an opponent from Richmond on Friday at 2:30 p.m.

Octavio Canibe won his first match of the day against Sam Perelman of Old Dominion, 6-4, 6-4. He was defeated in his second match by Saint Joseph's Kyle Chalmers, 6-2, 6-2.

On Friday, main singles and doubles play will begin. The tournament is expected to extend through Tuesday. Freshman Daniel Wright will play in the first main draw on Friday at 1 p.m. Nick Bybel received a bye in the first round of singles play, but he and Kane will play as a duo on Friday morning. Canibe and Wright are also set to compete in their first doubles match of the tournament at 9 a.m. on Friday.
